Using a PCI gateway will go a LONG way in helping with compliance. Most "big name" processors will gain you compliance, but you have to make certain to NOT store CC info, even if encrypted.

I too, loved playing with Magento. I just installed it recently only to discover the os edition is not PCI Compliant. :-( I no longer know what to do. I love it. I'm a small business and I have a low startup overhead and can't afford the more expensive versions of Magento or any other PCI Compliant cart. I read that just by completing the SAQ, my store will gain PCI Compliance, but after reading all the text on the internet on this subject, I am almost scared into closing shop altogether. I really hope Magento at least offers a paid add-on for PCI Compliance of their opensource edition.

That's a nice Magento Checkout Add On. This Magento add on is a very well done one page checkout. An effective one page checkout can increase conversions overnight. The fewer actions a buyer makes, the more likely they are to commit to a purchase. I played around on the demo site for a while and was really impressed. I'm going to dig into a little more this weekend, but my first impression was this is going to be one of the better one page checkout add-ons I've seen for Magento, if not any cart.

Magento is a great out of the box shopping cart. The checkout process is a little long (6 steps) but you can always add the One Step Checkout extension at http://www.onestepcheckout.com.
It's a simplified, one page checkout for Magento that could help with increase conversions.

JakeB, here's the proof: http://www.dawhoo.com/how-to-improve-your-search-engine-rank/

Check out the part about Joe's Discount Taxidermy. I made a static page, unlinked in this blog to anything. In 6 hours after placing the CL ad, that page ranked #4 in Google for "discount taxidermy" out of 1.45 million results. Of course, you won't see it in the Google results now, because it wasn't related to discount taxidermy at all. The only link to that page was a CL ad. With only a CL ad, it reached #4 in Google of 1.45 milion results in 6 hours.

Why don't corporations do this? For the same reason you won't see Rolex watches at WalMart - product valuation. WalMart could sell Rolex watches, but Rolex doesn't want their name to become affiliated with "cheap". THey also don't use CL ads, because they don't have to. I do a lot of ecommerce work and I would never put an ad for it on CL, because: 1) I cost too much for the average CL budget (starting at 5 figures) 2) people who advertise their web services on CL are usually not very good 3) I don't need to.
